Reading Reflection

A mysterious psychology clinic uses cats as special medicine to heal people's inner wounds. A heartwarming short story that makes you believe in the existence of hope.

Core Content Overview#

Story Summary#

Hidden deep in the alleyways is a mysterious psychology clinic, managed by a doctor and a nurse. Depending on the patient, different cat prescriptions are given—a young man unable to escape workplace pressure, a mother who neglects her daughter without realizing it, a woman unable to let go of the past. No matter the ailment, it can always be “cured by cats.” In the second half of the story, the background of the clinic and its members is gradually revealed.

Highlights#

A Passage That Moved You#

‘Cats are the best medicine’

We’ve been waiting here for a long time, and we don’t know why, is it because the door is too heavy?

“What if someone comes here but can’t open that door?”

Interesting or Unexpected Parts#

The story takes place in Kyoto. The text includes many descriptions of roads and scenes. Those who have been there will have a better sense of imagery. The gradually revealed background of the clinic members and why this clinic exists (what is it waiting for?), when finally revealed, gives you a sudden sense of clarity.

Key Insights or Values#

I feel it varies from person to person whether one can unlock their inner shackles, so I won’t discuss that here. Instead, I received another kind of inspiration:

“When in doubt, quantum mechanics”

When you have troubles that can’t be resolved for a long time, why not open your mind and try different paths, or those you consider impossible? Perhaps you can find an alternative route instead.

Personal Reflection & Practice#

Impact on Me#

In the text, the different therapeutic effects corresponding to cats are actually far-fetched (some are simply cats being mischievous, right?). But I think they unknowingly transform the mindset of those being treated or lead them down paths they wouldn’t normally take, finding light in darkness, facing things with a more positive mood.

Practical Application#

When you encounter a wall, try hitting it. If you can’t break through, remember to look for a window.

Extended Thinking#

Thought-Provoking Questions#

  • Do you have a cat?
  • Do you have worries that persist?
  • Do you feel some things you can’t let go of are because you’re unwilling to open that door?

Recommendations & Summary#

Suitable Readers:

Cat lovers, without a doubt.

Summary:

A heartwarming short story, light reading, good as bedtime material. Especially the ending’s restraint yet leaving some suspense, but gives you the feeling of believing that day will come, a mood that brings hope. I deliberately chose a light and heartwarming read, watching the characters’ troubles gradually resolve or find new outlets, unknowingly dispelling some of life’s haze.
